St Mary’s, Barton Mills, Preservation Trust
Presents Keld Ensemble
In Concert
On Saturday 21st April 2018
At 7.00pm. Doors open 6.15pm
St Mary’s Church, Barton Mills (IP28 6AP)
It is a very great privilege for us that this renowned group of sixteen musicians have agreed to come to play in our church. They have played in many famous places including St Martin in the Fields, other London Churches and St Edmundsbury Cathedral. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to have them to come and play here.
Co-founded by Jonathan Acton and Kate Waterworth in 2010, Keld Ensemble draws its exceptional musicians not just from London, but from all over the country, as you might expect from an ensemble named after a tiny hamlet in Swaledale, North Yorkshire. With half a decade of experience in collaborating with emerging stars and established artists, they have established an amazing reputation for themselves.
The concert at Barton Mills Church (IP28 6AP), 10 miles NW of Bury St. Edmunds, will be in a lighter style with some light classical music and music from the shows. Janna Huneke and Giorgio Serci, guitarist, will be in the Ensemble Group.
Tickets £15 each (unreserved seating)

A “Beautiful atmospheric duo” is how Jazz FM’s Chris Philips described this exciting new project by singer Filomena Campus and guitarist Giorgio Serci.
The sounds of the southern seas meet the rhythms of Brazil and Baroque arpeggios – the guitar of Giorgio Serci is underlined by the luminous voice of Campus. For this special Dean Street show, the duo are joined by the Keld Ensemble string orchestra.
"An outstanding guitarist, Serci accompanies on the classical instrument, his resonant bass notes and precise rhythms providing a firm foundation for Campus' vocal excursions, while dropping in the occasional expressive solo on electric guitar. (...) That Campus can write such expressive lyrics in English is impres...sive, but the freshness, vitality and vocal skill that she brings to each song makes this album truly special" Charles Alexander Jazzwise ****

Co-leader of the Keld Ensemble, Mona Kodama graduated from the Kunitachi Music High School in Tokyo, before coming to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music, gaining a Masters in 2001. She has studied with Akiko Suwa in Japan, Yfrah Neaman and Mark Knight in London and Joey Corpus in New York.
Mona divides her time between Tokyo and London. She is frequently in demand in Japan where she is a popular recital soloist, and a regular guest artist at several concert series such as the "Mori-no-concert" series near Tokyo and the "City Concert" series hosted by Matsudo County Council in Chiba Prefecture.
In Britain, Mona specialises more in chamber music. She is the violinist of the Marmara Piano trio, and has played in the Ibberson Quartet, Altissimo Ensemble, City Chamber Ensemble and others. Mona has given concerto performances with several British orchestras, and has performed in other European countries, including concerto performances in Germany and Romania, and in chamber music festivals and tours across Spain and southern France.
Mona is professor of violin and viola at the Junior Guildhall School of Music in London and teaches for Hertfordshire Music Service.

Harpsichordist Masumi Yamamoto was born in Osaka Japan, grew up on the Gold Coast in Australia and has been based in the UK since 2001. She has appeared with orchestras including St. James’s Baroque, Yorkshire Baroque Soloists and the International Baroque Players, and at venues such as the Purcell Room, the Royal Albert Hall, and St. John's Smith Square. Recent performance activities have taken her to France, Germany, Norway and Italy, and she has also performed as far afield as Malaysia, Japan and Australia. Masumi was a prize winner at the prestigious International Harpsichord Competition in Bruges in 2007 and became the first Japanese harpsichordist to reach the finals in 21 years. She was also a semi-finalist in the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig (2006), a runner-up in the Broadwood Harpsichord Competition in London (2007), and the winner of 2012 Fenton House Keyboard Ensemble Competition with ensemble Akenside Players. A solo recital in London was also given a four-star rating in The Independent in 2012: "her tempi follow the pulse of the heart, and her ornamentation is as natural as breathing".
Masumi graduated with a University Medal from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in Brisbane Australia where she studied piano with Leah Horwitz and harpsichord with Huguette Brassine. In the UK, she studied at the Royal Academy of Music, then at Trinity College of Music as a pupil of harpsichordist James Johnstone and was later "The English Concert" Junior Fellow with ensemble Melopoetica. Masumi is currently a PhD candidate at the University of York.
Now also a keen teacher, Masumi has given lessons and Masterclasses at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore and Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in Australia, and is Teacher of Harpsichord at St. Paul's Girls' School
